Transition to vegan?

I'm really sick of putting horrible things in my body so I've been vegetarian for several years. I eat dairy products everyday and I'd like to slowly phase them out of my diet. Anyone have any tips on that somewhat difficult transition to a vegan diet? Any favorite brands of soy cheese/yogurt would also be appreciated.

If you sign up at the PETA site they will send you a Vegan Starter kit. Good luck, don't forget your vitamins Smiling

Yeah I read their pdf version of the starter kit online, and it's not really chock full of info, disappointing! Sad But thanks for the idea, I'll troll around some more sites to find tips. And yes yes, vitamins are quite important. Smiling

As you transition to vegan-ism, you will find that your taste buds completely change. Things that you thought tasted "too healthy" or just not very yummy will begin to taste so much better. Take nutritional yeast sauces for example... I hate nutritional yeast several years ago when I was vegetarian. Now that I am vegan, I love it so much! I could even eat it by the spoonful (I know... ewe!).

I've also made my own blocks of cheese. I have a recipe that uses cashews and agar-agar; it comes out pretty good. As for brands of "cheese", Follow Your Heart is the best ever! Their Nacho Cheese variety is to-die-for! I don't think it melts as well as it claims, but I really don't care- it's great!

I highly recommend the book 'Skinny b*tch'
although it's focused on dieting and such, it is very informative on proper vegan nutrition, it gives a lot of pointers.

Good luck!

I became vegan after reading skinny b*tch but what made a world of difference was skinny b*tch in the kitch BRILLIANT!! my partner is now vegan too and we would never go back.

We live in New Zealand and being all about dairy and farming etc our product range is incomplete compared to the US.

The only thing we miss is cheese pizza but even then we've found the BEST alternative caramelized onion pizza yummmmy

think of it this way with the price of milk and cheese going up there's all the more reason to not eat it Laughing out loud
